The Lumières d’Afriques exhibition, presented in 2015 in Paris at the « Théâtre National de Chaillot » and in 2016 in Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire is today presented in Dakar, Senegal.

Designed by the organization African artists for Development, the exhibition is showed from January the 14th to February the 20th, 2017 at IFAN, the « lnstitut fondamental d’Afrique noire Cheikh Anta Diop ».

This second presentation of « Lumières d’Afriques » within the African continent, place where the works of art were created, as well as the unique partners’ collaboration stressed once again AAD’s commitment to the development of the continent.

This exhibition was inaugurated under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and sustainable energy development: Monsieur Thierno Alassane SALL and the Minister of Culture and Communication Monsieur Mbagnick NDIAYE.

Many events are already planned around the exhibition; that gathered 54 artworks – paintings, photographs, installations, videos, sculptures – created by 54 contemporary African artists – one per country – around the theme “African Lights and Energies”, such as schools visits and development of a pedagogical project for the exhibition.

Artistic direction: Jean-Michel Champault

Scenography: Nicolas Kerroux

Created in 1936, the IFAN’s (Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire Cheikh Anta Diop) mission is to study and promote the sub-Saharan African culture.

As you know, the Coronavirus is spreading worldwide. After Asia, Europe and the American continent, the African continent sees the Covid19 epidemic coming with great concern, given the limited health infrastructures available in some countries.

All the AAD teams wish to give their warm support to the artists, professionals, partners and volunteers involved in our projects throughout Africa.

We have preventively taken the decision to temporarily suspend all our activities in the field in order to participate in the security of all and to try stop the spread of the virus on the continent.

As we know today, the speed of implementation of measures to protect people on a collective scale is critical in the future fight against the impact of this virus.
